Design
The design of the 911 shows where we are coming from and where are roots are. It, however, also shows us the direction we are thinking along and how we see the future.
Form language, proportion and line design follow the tradition of the 911. With mudguards that are higher than the front bonnet, with the round and typically formed lights, with a roof line descending backwards and side windows coming together to a point. The impression on the whole: deep, wide, flat, sports car proportions, with origins on the racetrack.
An icon? Only because we develop them further. Our designers have drawn the 911 as precisely as ever. And with this a draft for its future has been created. With a striking light design and characteristic four-point LED daytime running lights integrated into the Bi-Xenon main headlights. With indicators in a sharp design. And all that in a Porsche, that is clearly recognisable as a 911 - even from a distance.
The front with the large air intakes provides a very sporty appearance. In the external air intakes, the active air intake flaps direct the aerodynamic and cooling according to demand.
So let us summarise: the 911 comes with quite a bite. Well, the future makes one hungry.
The tail encloses the core of the 911: the engine. This is where its heart has been beating since 1963. And now more vigorously than ever. This changes the parameters for the design too.
So let’s talk about the function first and then about the form: a combustion engine without air cannot perform. This is what we learned in physics. A Porsche engine needs a lot of air to breath. This is what we learn from motor racing. The turbocharged drive of the 911 Carrera and 911 Targa 4 models gets more of it than ever before, due to the slats arranged lengthwise along the boot lid grille.
The 3D shaped taillights with LED technology are striking in the best possible sense. For a sculpted appearance, also characteristic for the 918 Spyder. So, a design for the future, combined with the technology for a new era.
A hallmark for the all-wheel models is the continuous light strip: optically it flows into the taillights and emphasises the 44 mm wider rear of the all-wheel models.
The single-tube tailpipes are made of stainless steel. In the S-models they are designed as a twin system. Just like in the 911 GT3: the tailpipes of the optional sports exhaust system are located in the middle. Form, function and sound create one impressive unit.
Slick, sporty, timeless. The contours of the rear are sharp and clear, the impression it gives is wide, rich and powerful. This is our evolutionary theory.
