Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Current Championship points leader dominates qualifying at home track, Qualifying
Dan Cammish continues title assault with double pole position at Croft

• Redline Racing's Dan Cammish to start from pole for both of Sunday's Porsche Carrera Cup GB races thanks to blistering pace
• Team Parker Racing's Josh Webster joins him on the front row for rounds 7 & 8 to set up intriguing battle at the front
• Ignas Gelzinis and John McCullagh on top in Pro-Am1 and Pro-Am2

Current Porsche Carrera Cup GB points leader Dan Cammish produced two exceptional laps to bag double pole position as the record-breaking eleven-team grid took to the unforgiving Croft Circuit in the picturesque North Yorkshire countryside. The Leeds-born former Formula Ford champion took advantage of the perfect conditions to give himself a great chance of adding to his four victories already this season.

Such was his dominance that his second fastest lap was quicker than any time set by the rest of the field in their identical 460 hp 911 Cup Cars. The 26-year-old went top of the timings early in the session and continued to light up the timing screens throughout his eleven laps, giving his nearest rivals no chance to steal pole off him.

“I’m really happy with my performance out there today,” said the Yorkshireman. “It’s probably the first time I’ve got out of the car after qualifying and been really delighted with how it’s gone. I really do have a fantastic car thanks to the guys at Redline Racing. Tomorrow will be all about converting this promising quali into points. I’m starting in the right place because it’s notoriously difficult to pass here.”

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar and defending champion Josh Webster (Team Parker Racing) will line up second on the grid for both races after pushing Cammish hardest. The Stowmarket-based 21-year-old will be determined to get a good start and apply immediate pressure on the polesitter in his fight to regain some ground in the title hunt. Fellow title contender Stephen Jelley also had a consistent day meaning he will line up fourth for rounds 7 & 8.

The other notable performance in the Pro category came from IDL Racing’s Tom Sharp who secured a mighty impressive starting position of third for tomorrow’s first race. The series rookie looks at home in his flat-six rear-engined Porsche and will be one to keep an eye out for when the racing gets under way.

In the Pro-Am1 category, Juta Racing’s Ignas Gelzinis overcame the issues he suffered in practice on Friday to notch double class pole. The Lithuanian, who has looked impressive all season, crossed the line just faster than Redline Racing’s Jack Falla and Parr Motorsport’s Mark Cole.

“I’m really happy with the result,” stated the 24-year-old. “I went into the session having done just two laps in dry conditions and in those moments it is really hard to believe in yourself. On the first set of tyres I was getting used to the track and on the second I finally managed to find the right balance. I feel like I could have gone quicker too as I hit traffic on a number of occasions. Who knows what tomorrow will bring but I’ve got track position which is crucial.”

In arguably the tightest class, Pro-Am2, Redline Racing’s John McCullagh stole the show by claiming pole for both of tomorrow’s races. The Inlec-backed driver from Great Smeaton beat Lithuanian Tautvydas Barstys (Juta Racing) and Francis Galashan (GT Marques) to put him in prime position to claim more solid points.

“It feels great to be at Croft in front of the home fans,” the former British Junior Rally Team driver said. “Conditions are absolutely great and we got a good clear lap which enabled us to put all the bits together. There was probably a bit more time in the car but because of the lead we had, we decided to call it a day and save our tyres. It’s a very narrow circuit, so qualifying was really important and hopefully it stands us in good stead for the races.”

Round seven of the Carrera Cup GB will start at 12.42 tomorrow with round eight later on at 16.19. Live coverage of the action will be broadcast on ITV4.

Editors’ Note:

Porsche can claim more than 30,000 race victories in almost every motor sports series worldwide, and while many of these successes have been achieved with immensely powerful specialist race cars like the evocative 917 and 956, the iconic 911 sports coupe is the bedrock on which the peerless racing reputation of the Stuttgart marque has been built.

The 911 demonstrates perfectly the Porsche philosophy of not only building sports cars in order to win races, but also to gain development know-how that can be incorporated into the evolution of its road cars. Successive generations of the rear-engined 911 have been honed on the race circuit since its debut in 1963, with customers benefitting from continuous improvements in key dynamic areas such as engine performance, braking and aerodynamics.

Porsche is the world's largest manufacturer of racing cars; the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car competes in the Mobil1 Supercup, the world’s fastest international one-make Championship, which supports Formula One Grands Prix. The 911 GT3 Cup also entertains spectators around the world racing in the many domestic Carrera Cup Championships in Germany, Asia, France, Italy, Japan, Scandinavia and Great Britain. The all-new GT3 R is the first step for drivers moving up to GT racing, while the 911 RSR is the standard-bearer for the Porsche Works teams in international blue riband events like Daytona and the Le Mans 24 Hours.

With a record number of overall victories, Porsche is the most successful manufacturer in Le Mans history. In 2014, Porsche returned to Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the factory-run 919 Hybrid sports prototype race car in the top LMP1 category, and scored its first outright victory in its debut WEC season in the final race in Brazil.

This June, Porsche scored its 17th and latest success in Le Mans when Britain’s Nick Tandy, New Zealand driver Earl Bamber and German F1 star Nico Hulkenberg took the chequered flag in their 919 Hybrid LMP1 after 24 hours of flat out racing. Chasing this trio across the line was the second 919 Hybrid of Brendon Hartley (New Zealand), Mark Webber (Australia) and Timo Bernhard (Germany) to deliver a 1-2 result for the Stuttgart team.
